New Year, new us! In 2023, we are emBARKing on a new journey into the land of Camp Crate Escape!

We are reforming our entire daycare operation to follow a more structured and enriching model. After the birth of our Day School and the sequential Enrichment Program, we noticed that our dogs wanted and benefited greatly from their day here with us at Crate Escape. We want to be a part of enriching your dogs’ lives, allowing them to be the very best canine citizens of the world.

In zoos and aquariums across the world, a large part of animal caretaking is the idea of providing captive animals with “enrichment”.  Animal enrichment, defined, is “the process of providing captive animals with some form of stimulation in order to encourage natural behaviors, which helps to improve or maintain their physical and mental health”. Why should this only apply to zoo animals and not the animals that live within our homes (or daycare, in our case)?

Research shows that animals involved in environmental enrichment programs show an increase in positive behaviors, a decrease in stress, which then results in a better ability to cope with challenges in a more appropriate way. (Young, 2013, p. 2)

What this means is that some behavioral challenges that your dog may be facing in daycare (and out) can be mitigated by having a more balanced and varied day. This keeps dogs happy, staff happy, and of course YOU, the owner, happy as well. While a tired dog is a happy dog, we can’t just rely on dogs exhausting themselves through physical exertion. We want a dog that is calm, content, and fulfilled as opposed to drained.

We know that every dog is different, and therefore not every activity or group of dogs is a best fit for everyone. Over the past six months we have been training all of our staff on how to tailor different activities for different dogs, and to accommodate how they learn based on the dogs’ preferences. Therefore, our program is designed to be flexible and adaptive to suit most of our furry clientele.

What will Camp Crate Escape entail, you ask?

  • Smaller Group Sizes
  • More Individual Attention From Staff Members
  • Positive Reinforcement for Good Behavior
  • Structured Nap Times to Help Regulate Energy Levels and Overstimulation
  • Enriching Activities (Walks, Canine Fitness, Snuffle Mats, Ball Pits, etc)
  • Add-Ons (Kongs, Licki-Mats, for crated breaks and rest time)
  • Puppy Specific Days & Groups

What are the hours of Camp Crate Escape?

In order to run our enrichment program smoothly and to allow the proper division of attention and activities for each dog, we will have strict drop off and pick up hours. All dogs will have to be in the building by 10am. All dogs have to stay in the building until 3pm. Pick up is from 3-6:30pm.

Drop off: 7am - 10am

Pick up: 3pm - 6:30pm

*If you have a specific need one day, you can let us know ahead of time and we can coordinate an earlier pick up or a later drop off.

What is the cost of Camp Crate Escape?

Flat rate of $52. We will still offer a 10 pack, where you prepay for 10 days and get the 11th day free.

It is important to note that this is not a training program. Your dog will be utilizing their brain and getting lots of structure similar to how they do in a training program, but they will not be in an obedience program or working through problem behaviors. Think of it more as sending a child to day camp instead of school! If you ARE interested in the training program, please reach out to our Training Academy located in our Charlestown location: dayschool.crateescape@gmail.com.
